A cutting-edge biotech company specializes in cellular rejuvenation to reverse aging, but they struggled to move breakthrough ideas into production due to challenges with their infrastructure.
The situation
Even with billions in funding, the client remained mired in a complicated AWS framework. Their workload is spread across a hybrid work environment that includes multiple offices and labs and requires extensive compute and storage needs as well as for AI and ML services. What’s more, their infrastructure incorporates three main accounts—Development, Lab (functioning as production) and Staging—and is further diversified with multiple sandbox accounts dedicated to third-party vendors.
A previous negative experience with an AWS partner left the client searching for a collaborator with deep knowledge of both AWS and the intricacies of Life Sciences. This is where Loka stepped in.
The solution
Over a six-month span, our engagement with the client evolved from a pilot that targeted spend, processes and production optimization to a broad collaboration across all key technical teams. Our partnership ultimately included six long-term projects, has implemented over a dozen AWS solutions and slashed redundant storage and compute expenses.
What we delivered
We crafted custom solutions for six distinct projects and developed a support strategy for AWS’s Migration Acceleration Program Assess and Mobilize phases, including
- A GenAI-focused project integrating LLMs into client’s research practices.
- An initiative that grew from a small idea to a larger app platform project, including an internal developer portal to streamline AWS architectural pattern deployments and minimize waiting periods for distinct teams.
- Loka’s data engineering team and client engineers built their ontology and established graph database solutions.
- We streamlined the integration of DataDog, offering insights into critical facets like data transfer, security, and cost.
- IaC standardization encompassed key elements like SCPs, tagging policies, templates and beyond.
- AWS Control Tower and AWS service standardizations bolstered client’s security and provide clarity on costs and usage.
